THE PORSCHE 911 “SUPER CARRERA”

The Porsche 911, a symbol of automotive excellence, first graced the roads in 1964. Originally conceived as a more powerful and comfortable successor to the Porsche 356, the 911 quickly established itself as a quintessential sports car. Its distinctive rear-engine layout, sleek design, and a commitment to performance and engineering set it apart. Over the decades, the 911 has evolved through numerous iterations, each refining its core characteristics while embracing modern advancements. By the time the 911 SC Coupé arrived, the model had already cemented its legendary status in the automotive world.

The third gen Porsche 911 SC (for those of you who don't know, SC stands for Super Carrera) produced from 1981 to 1983 is a testament to the meticulous engineering Porsche is renowned for. It's powered by a 3.0 liter flat-six engine delivering 204 horsepower, a notable improvement from its predecessors. The air-cooled engine, a hallmark of Porsche design, provides a unique sound and driving experience that enthusiasts cherish.

The 911 SC features Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection, enhancing fuel efficiency and performance. This model also includes an aluminum crankcase, contributing to its relatively light weight of approximately 1.220 kg. The transmission is a 5-speed manual, offering drivers a direct and engaging connection with the car.

Compared to its predecessors, the third gen 911 SC showcases several key advancements. The earlier 911 SC models, introduced in 1978, initially offered 180 horsepower, which was then increased to 188 horsepower in 1980. The 1982 model's 204 horsepower marks a significant leap, enhancing overall performance and driving dynamics.

This boost in power is attributed to modifications in the engine's compression ratio and the exhaust system. Additionally, the 1982 model benefits from improved braking with ventilated disc brakes, ensuring better heat dissipation and more consistent performance under strenuous driving conditions. The suspension was also fine-tuned, providing a better balance between comfort and handling precision.

THIS CHASSIS NUMBER

Twenty years ago, the current owner purchased this Porsche from a Swiss professor who later became a close friend. Originally sold new in 1982 in Switzerland, this Porsche was imported to Italy by the current custodian around 20 years ago and now, for obvious reasons, carries an Italian license plate.

The vendor has used the car sparingly, mostly for gatherings and short trips. Recently, the injectors were serviced, and over the years, all maintenance has been performed by Porsche to ensure the car remains in perfect condition.

The exterior of the car is in excellent shape, with the striking Meteor Grey Metallic paint showing just minimal imperfections, particularly around the roof's drainage channels. The interior features black leather upholstery, which is in superb condition, as is the carpeting.

Mechanically speaking, the vehicle is in great order. It has always been meticulously maintained, kept in a garage, and protected by a cloth cover. The car has covered approximately 125.000 kilometers from new. The tires were replaced in the last six months, and the vehicle has a valid inspection. It also boasts the "ASI Targa Oro" certification. The car comes with the original owner's manual and the original Blaupunkt radio system manual from that era.

HOW DOES IT DRIVE?

Driving the 1982 Porsche 911 SC Coupé is an exhilarating experience that combines classic sports car dynamics with a level of refinement that was advanced for its time. The engine's responsiveness and distinctive flat-six growl create a visceral connection between the car and driver. The precise steering and balanced chassis offer a sense of confidence through corners, while the relatively lightweight and compact dimensions make it agile and engaging.

The 5-speed manual transmission is a joy to operate, with crisp shifts that encourage spirited driving. Despite its performance-oriented nature, the 911 SC also offers a comfortable ride, making it suitable for both enthusiastic drives and daily commutes.

Briefly, the Porsche 911 SC Coupé remains a beloved classic, revered for its blend of performance, engineering, and iconic design. Its place in the history of the 911 lineage is significant, marking an era of advancement and refinement. For enthusiasts and collectors, the 911 SC represents not just a car, but a piece of automotive history that continues to inspire and captivate car geeks of any age from all over the world.
